Tourn\u00e9 vers la gauche dans un mouvement de torsion, il l\u00e8ve la main en signe d\u2019avertissement vers la statuette de la Vierge qui lui faisait pendant. Il tient encore dans la main gauche l\u2019extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 d\u2019une banderole, sur laquelle figurait probablement la salutation \u00e9vang\u00e9lique et qui se d\u00e9roulait au moins jusqu\u2019aux genoux, comme le prouvent les traces d\u2019arrachement \u00e0 cet endroit. Il est coiff\u00e9 de boucles serr\u00e9es que retient un mince diad\u00e8me. La rondeur de son visage est accentu\u00e9e par un l\u00e9ger double menton ; les yeux s\u2019allongent sous de fins sourcils, le nez est court, la bouche charnue, \u00e0 peine souriante. L\u2019Ange est v\u00eatu d\u2019une longue robe bord\u00e9e de larges orfrois qui s\u2019arr\u00eate \u00e0 hauteur des chevilles, d\u00e9gageant ses pieds nus : cette disposition est d\u2019origine, seuls les talons ont \u00e9t\u00e9 refaits. La robe tombe en plis cannel\u00e9s, dont le rythme est seulement d\u00e9rang\u00e9 par le mouvement du genou gauche.
