JSON Documentation

Each entry in the Louvre Collections site comes with a corresponding page of data structured in JSON format.
To access the JSON version of the entries, simply add ".json" to the entry URL.
For example:
https://collections.louvre.fr/ark:/53355/cl010277627.json

All use of text data and images must comply with the Terms of Use.

Please note that the content provided on the Louvre Collections site (https://collections.louvre.fr) is available in French only. However, the interface and the list of JSON properties are also available in English.

Data type: string of characters.
Description: URL of the Collections site entry.
Example:

Data type: string of characters.
Description: ark name of the URL identifying each entry.
Example:

modified
Data type: date.
Description: date of the most recent update of the entry in YYYY-MM-DD format.
Example:

title
Data type: string of characters.
Description: denomination/title heading.
Example:

Pèlerinage à l'île de Cythère


titleComplement
Data type: string of characters.
Description: title complement, specific to entries for the Department of Prints and Drawings.
Example:

Figures d'académie, recueil de 32 planches dont une de titre représentant des divinités ou des héros de l'Antiquité dans diverses attitudes


denominationTitle
Data type: string of characters.
Description: long text grouping the different titles and denominations (Denomination, Title, Usual title, Designation, Old title, Other title).
Example:

Titre : Vénitienne ; Ancien titre : Bourgeoise de Bologne - Femme à la mantille


displayDateCreated
Data type: string of characters.
Description: long text providing information on the type and value of the date and period the object was created.
Example:

Date de création/fabrication : 2e quart du XVIIIe siècle (1737)


dateCreated
Data type: data table.
Description: structured data table on the dates and periods of creation.
"Type" indicates the type of date.
"StartYear" and "endYear" indicate the start and end years in digital format and "text" indicates the period in textual format.
"Imprecision" indicates the degree of imprecision.
Multi-valued property.
"Doubt" is a boolean ( null | "?" ) ) indicating possible doubt on the statement.

creator
Data type: structured data table on the declared attribution of the object.
"AttributionLevel" specifies the attribution level where appropriate. It can be a current attribution, a proposed attribution, a former attribution, another attribution or an inventory name.
"LinkType" qualifies the type of link between the creator and the artwork.
"Dates" is a multi-valued data table specifying the dates the creator was alive or active.
"CreatorRole" specifies the role of the creator where appropriate.
"AuthenticationType" indicates possible type of authentication.
"Doubt" is a boolean ( "" | "?" ) indicating possible doubt on the statement.
"AttributedBy" and "attributedYear" are specific to the entries of the Department of Prints and Drawings; they indicate the name of the attributor and the date of attribution.
"Wikidata" indicates the Wikidata corresponding to the person.

Data type: property indicating the value of the "Current location" in the body of the entry.
Example:

room
Data type: string of characters.
Description: the location of the objects in the Louvre palace is indicated systematically in the following format: [room], [wing], [level].
Example:

Salle 618, Aile Sully, Niveau 1


isMuseesNationauxRecuperation
Data type: booléen.
Description: data indicating whether the object is an "MNR" (Musées Nationaux Récupération) artwork with two possible values, true or false.
Example:

true


objectNumber
Data type: data table.
Description: data table indicating the number(s) associated with the object and their respective type.
Multi-valued property.

Data type: string of characters.
Description: data specific to the entries of the Department of Prints and Drawings, indicating the collection to which the artwork belongs.

Data type: string of characters.
Description: data indicating the type of object. This concerns the following collections: Edmond de Rothschild collection of the Department of Prints and Drawings, Department of Decorative Arts, Department of Sculptures.

Data type: string of characters.
Description: data specific to the entries of the Department of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities indicating the original artwork.

printState
Data type: string of characters.
Description: data specific to the entries of the Department of Prints and Drawings, indicating the state of a print.

Description: long text providing a description of the object.
Example:

inscriptions
Data type: string of characters.
Description: long text on the inscriptions grouping a variety of possible information: writing system, language, inscription, nature of the text, translation, transcription, transliteration, doubt, remarks.

namesAndTitles
Data type: string of characters.
Description: data on names and titles specific to the entries of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities.
Example:

onomastics
Data type: string of characters.
Description: data on onomastics specific to the entries of the Department of Greek, Etruscan and Roman Antiquities.
Example:

Θρασύδαμος - Thrasydamos (éponyme rhodien, prêtre d'Hélios)


dimension
Data type: data table.
Description: structured data table on the dimensions of the objects.
The type of dimension is indicated by "type".
"Value" is a number and "unit" specifies the unit of measurement.
"AnteriorPrecision" and "posteriorPrecision" indicate specifications made before or after the measurement in the entry.
"Tri" is not systematically filled in and indicates an order of restitution in the entry.

historicalContext
Data type: data table.
Description: historical context of the discovery (ex.: Archaeological site, Tomb number: amphora A without no 1922), presentation (ex.: Salon, Salon of 1844, Paris) or affiliation of the object (ex. Treasury, Treasury of Saint-Denis, Saint-Denis).
Propriété multivaluée.
Example:

objectHistory
Data type: string of characters.
Description: history of the object.
Example:

Achat de l'Etat ; bronze commandé à l'artiste d'après le modèle en plâtre (conservé au FNAC inv. FNAC FH 868-376)


jabachInventory
Data type: string of characters.
Description: entry of the Jabach inventory specific to the Department of Prints and Drawings.
Example:

Dessin dit d'ordonnance collé et doré de la collection d'Everhard Jabach [...]


napoleonInventory
Data type: string of characters.
Description: entry of the Napoleon inventory specifically mentioned in the entries of the Department of Prints and Drawings.
Example:

Inventaire du Musée Napoléon. Dessins. Vol.5, p.896, chap. : Ecole italienne D, carton 62 5 [...]


previousOwner
Data type: data table.
Description: previous owner, patron or dedicatee.
Multi-valued property.

"Date"/"value" data can be in DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY format.
"Date"/"startYear" and "date"/"endYear" data are in YYYY format.

index
Data type: data table.
Description: indexation data corresponding to terms of controlled vocabulary.
The indexes entered are data tables comprising multi-valued elements composed of single terms. In the case of a hierarchical thesaurus, all of the elements of the relationship are indicated at the same level.
Index corresponding to hierarchical thesauri:
- denomination : denomination,
- material : materials,
- technic : technique [no hierarchical elements for the entries of the Department of Prints and Drawings],
- description : description/decor,

Description: data table on bibliographic references.
"BibliographyDate" data is in text format.
"BibliographyDetail" data provides details on the reference in connection with the object of the entry.
"Comparison" is a boolean (true|false) indicating comparison bibliographic references.

Data type: data table.
Description: data table with URL value of the related object and type of link.
Multi-valued property.

Data type: data table.
Description: data table with specific information for each image.
"UrlImage" indicates the URL of the image file.
"UrlThumbnail" indicates the URL of the thumbnail file.
"Copyright" indicates the legal rights over the image.
"Type" indicates a type of image where appropriate.
"Position" indicates the order of restitution in the entry and starts at value 0.
Multi-valued property.
All use of images must comply with the Terms of Use.
