Ce dessin ne figure pas parmi les illustrations du livre d'Alexandre Dumas, le Véloce, pour lequel il avait été commandé (L. Boulanger, peintre et graveur romantique, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, 1970, n° 116).
