Identifié par Ph. Pouncey (avril 1952, note ms au verso du montage) comme un original de Raffaellino del Garbo, ce dessin a peut-être été exécuté en vue d'une broderie ou d'un petit panneau ('Dessins florentins du Trecento et Quattrocento', cat. exp. Paris, Musée du Louvre, 1952, n° 19).
