Commentaire :
On lisait sur l'ancien montage ces mots inscrits par le peintre lui-même : 'Au bon ami et au véritable amateur des arts Monsieur Sommariva David'. Ce dessin est une étude pour le tableau du musée du Louvre, daté de 1814. (L.-A. Prat, 'David', 5 Continents n° 9, Cabinet des dessins, musée du Louvre, Paris, Milan, 2005, n° 47, p. 80).
