Ce projet de cheminée a été commandité par Claude Paradis, riche marchand de tapis aixois qui avait fait construire son hôtel dans le quartier Mazarin, 10, rue du Quatre-Septembre, aujourd'hui Hôtel d'Ollivary (Le dessin baroque, Musée Paul Dupuy, Toulouse, 1992.p.43).
