Commentaire :
Lucas Horenbout, fils et élève de l'enlumineur ganto-brugeois Gerard Horenbout, a été actif en Angleterre, où dès 1525 il occupa auprès d'Henry VIII (1491-1547) une position enviable. Il a laissé, outre celui exposé ici, sept portraits en miniature du souverain, tous différents (Londres, Sotheby's, 11 juillet 1983, n° 25 ; Cambridge, Fitzwilliam Museum, PD 19-1949 ; H. M. The Queen, The Royal Collection ; The Duke of Buccleuch and Queensberry KT ; Pays-Bas, collection V. de S. ; collection privée). (Dominique Cordellier dans Des Mécènes par milliers, Louvre, 1997, n° 194).
