D'après M. Wolff ('The master of the playins cards...' Yale University, 1979, pp. 15-16) cette gravure serait l'original du Maître, celle de Berlin (Lehrs, 1908, I, n°2) n'étant qu'une copie. M. Wolff a comparé le type des personnages et leurs attitudes avec ceux de 'La prise de Jésus-Christ' du retable Staufen de Karlsruhe, peint dans l'entourage du Maître du jardin du paradis. (P. Jean-Richard in cat. exp. Paris, 1991-1992, p. 32, n° 12, repr.)
