D'après sa 'Vita' rédigée par saint Ouen, saint Eloi aurait été trésorier des rois Clotaire III et Dagobert, tout en exerçant la charge de monétaire. (E. Leutrat, 'Les débuts de la gravure sur cuivre en France : Lyon, 1520-1565', Droz, Genève, 2007 (JG 13).
