Xavier Salmon : Beauvarlet donna en 1760 les estampes de La Bascule et du Colin-maillard d'après les tableaux peints par Fragonard vers 1755 (Madrid, musée Thyssen-Bornemisza et Toledo Art Museum). Le premier état des estampes donnait les compositions à Boucher. Le second état les restituait à Fragonard. Conçus comme des pendants, Le Colin-maillard et La Bascule ont été datés entre 1752 (Rosenberg, 1987, p. 46-50, n° 5 et 6) et 1755 (Cuzin, 1987, p. 34-36) Dansez, embrassez qui vous voudrez. Fêtes et plaisirs d'amour au siècle de Madame de Pompadour, sous la dir. de Xavier Salmon, cat. exp.
