Selon Winzinger, Altdorfer s'est inspiré pour la réalisation de cette œuvre d'un nielle de l'école bolonaise ("Altdorfer graphik', Munich 1963, n°162). La Collection Rothschild conserve une des deux épreuves existantes : 62 Ni.
