Commentaire :

Cette gravure fait partie d'une série de quatre représentant les évangelistes. Elles sont conservées à Amsterdam, Basel, Berlin, Brême, Brunswick, Budapest (sans Saint Luc), Cambridge, Cobourg, Dresde, Düsseldorf, Erlangen, Hambourg, Londres, Munich, Munster, Nuremberg, Paris, Stuttgart, Vienne, Varsovie, Wolfegg.
Il existe deux copies: sur bois, par Christoffel van Sichem pour le folio 106 du Nouveau Testament de la Biblia Sacra signée avec le monogramme CVS; une copie anonyme conservée à Berlin. (The New Hollstein, 'Heinrich Aldegrever' German engravings, etchings and woodcuts, 1400-1700, p. 71, repr. 59).
