Cette gravure fait partie d'une série de sept plaques sur le thème des vertus dont les séries complètes sont conservées à Amsterdam, Basel, Berlin, Brême, Cambridge, Cobourg, Dresde, Hambourg, Londres, Munster, Vienne, Varsovie et Wolfegg. Il existe plusieurs séries de différentes éditions : Brunswick, Budapest, Munich, Nuremberg, Paris, Stuttgart et Varsovie.
Un dessin préparatoire daté de 1552 est conservé à Amsterdam (Plassmann 48). (The New Hollstein, 'Heinrich Aldegrever' German engravings, etchings and woodcuts, 1400-1700, p. 110 à 112, repr. 123). B. VIII, p. 400.
