Considéré par B. Berenson ('The Drawings of the Florentine Painters', Chicago, 1938, n° 898c) comme l'oeuvre d'un artiste proche de Sebastiano Mainardi ou de Benedetto Ghirlandaio, qui pourrait correspondre à Juan de Borgo±a, ce dessin a été ensuite attribué à Raffaellino del Garbo [cf. 'Dessins Florentins du Trecento et du Quattrocento', cat. exp. (Paris, Musée du Louvre, 1952), Paris, 1952, n° 20]. G. Dalli Regoli ('Piero di Cosimo, disegni noti e ignoti, 1', in Critica d'Arte, estratto dal fascicolo n° 133, gennaio-febbraio 1974, p. 49-65) identifie ce dessin comme original de Piero di Cosimo et elle le met en rapport avec le portrait de 'Simonetta Vespucci' conservé à Chantilly (Musée Condé), le 'Saint Jean-Baptiste' conservé à Honolulu (Academy of Arts) et les saintes Marguerite et Catherine de la 'Concezione Tedaldi' conservée à Florence (Galleria degli Uffizi).
