Le petit paysan vu de dos est tiré d'un modèle de Bloemaert conservé à la Kunsthalle de Hambourg (inv. 1957-189) que Boucher copiera dans les années 1770 et qu'il reprend dans les oeuvres comme 'L'atelier du maréchal-ferrant' (Nationalmuseum de Stockholm (NMH 2950/1863).
