B. Berenson ('The Drawings of the Florentine painters', Londres, 1903, n° 49) rattachait la feuille à 'La Cène' de San Salvi, à Florence. I. Fraenckel ('Andrea del Sarto', Strasbourg, 1935, p. 182-183), qui pourtant y voyait une copie d'atelier, avec peut-être des corrections du maître, en proposait une identification avec les jambes du troisième apôtre à partir de la gauche dans 'La Cène' de San Salvi, à Florence. J. Shearman ('Andrea del Sarto', Oxford, 1965, II, p. 378) y voyait plutôt une recherche pour les jambes du Christ dans la même fresque. A rapprocher d'une feuille d'études similaires pour la même fresque qui est conservée à Florence (Galleria degli Uffizi, n. 336F) - A. M. Petrioli Tofani, 'Andrea de Sarto. Dipinti e disegni a Firenze', cat. exp. (Florence, Palazzo Pitti, 1986-1987), Milan, 1986, sous n° 70.
